My Best Tips for Scientific Presentation #PowerPoint #PhD #SciComm #TEDTalk #Communication (Long Title)
Do you feel overwhelmed by the idea of presenting your research?
In this video, I shared my best tips on preparing an effective science presentation.
Here is my suggestion for grad students.
1. Observe different presentation styles by watching more science presentation (webinars, conference presentations)
2. Pick ONE style and Stick to it, that will save a lot of time!
3. Don't over-prepare the number of slides, if you have 15 min talk, 15 slides would be the maximum (1 slide per min rule)
4. Make less than 5 points in each slide
5. Set the scene with a "High-school level" picture, and build it up with the most important papers in your field (from a TED talk to a mini-lecture)
6. Consider using photo, illustration, movies, to replace wordy slides (I went into intro, methods, results, discussion sections)
7. Why and how to use slide number and citation
8, How I would design a cover slide to attract connection with the audience
Share with this video to the youngest Ph.D. student in your group!
