The TEDxBloomington crowd was dazzled with an aerial silk performance by Flight Club Fitness and Aerial Arts, led by Juliana Burrell, accompanied by live music from Salaam. Formed by a troupe of professional and student aerialists, Flight Club offers workout classes in aerial silks and trapeze arts in Bloomington and Los Angeles. They performed seemingly death-defying spins and drops from high above the audience in the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, creating delight and astonishment, and certainly "waking up the audience" after a full morning of TEDx talks and lunch.
At TEDxBloomington, the Flight Club troupe featured Juliana Burrell, Isla Weber, Laura Pence, Kristina Downs, Sue Rall, Aimee Polk, and Nicci Zautra, accompanied by Gillian Hadlock dancing. Salaam performed the original song, ""Layla,"" written by Dena El Saffar. Salaam performers in this set were Dena El Saffar, Tim Moore, Miguel Merino, and Sam Finley, and they were joined by Lena Weber, on flute. Salaam also performed throughout the day at TEDxBloomington.
About TEDx, x=independently organized event. In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
