Erik and I test out the IONNA Rechargery in Springfield Ohio, putting it to the test by plugging in a Tesla Model Y and an Acura ZDX to the same charger. We follow the charging curves, discuss the charger's features, look at the handles, the cable management, discuss how quiet the charger is, get a receipt and speculate on future integrations with plug and charge.
IONNA is the joint venture of 8 automakers to provide a superior alternative to public fast charging in North America. Both NACS and CCS cables are offered so that virtually all new EVs can be charged.
We visited the Springfield, Ohio IONNA site at the Sheetz just off of I-70. It's just about midway between Dayton and Columbus and thus happens to fill in a gap of fast charging.
As of this video's release the cost to charge is $0.48/kWh. Apps from several OEMs and other charging apps like ChargePoint can be used to pay for and activate a charge. Two automakers, Mercedes Benz and BMW offer plug and charge. And anyone can start a charging session with a credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay using tap to pay.
