At this year’s 26th Annual Economist Government Roundtable of the #Economist_SEUR, Georgios Stassis, Chairman & CEO at PPC S.A., talked about Greece’s energy transition, the global energy crisis and PPC’s initiatives regarding its energy and digital transformation. Below you may find the key points of his discussion with Daniel Franklin, Executive & Diplomatic Editor of The Economist.
▪️ The plan we had before the energy crisis and the plan we are developing right now are the same, and our narrative has more value today than ever. The need to reduce dependence on traditional energy sources concerns both the environment and the prices, but it is also a matter of energy security.
▪️ In the following years, we will also invest in green hydrogen projects, since we must prepare the future. These changes are included in the revised plan that we will announce by the end of the year.
▪️ New energy storage technologies (AI, digital systems, computer systems) are being developed to ensure greater flexibility and efficiency. These kinds of changes are coming faster than we thought but we are getting prepared for them.
▪️ In case Greece is faced with a large deficit, I believe that industrial consumers should be limited, so that we can do our best for households.
▪️ The RES licensing is still an important issue in Europe. In Greece we have lots of positive developments, thus our projects receive licensing and develop faster than in other European countries.
