On Friday, November 16, 2001, Nigeria’s Agbani Darego beat off Aruba, Scotland, China, Nicaragua, and 88 other nations from around the world to the Miss World 2001 crowning. She was just 18 years and 329 days old.
Darego was also the first indigenous African to win the Miss World title in Sun City, South Africa, and has remained a role model to the average young African girl who dreams to equal her feat.
A projected global television audience of 1.2 billion people watched 18-year-old Miss Nigeria, Agbani Darego became the first black African to win the Miss World title at Sun City, South Africa, November 16, 2001.
Darego captured the title ahead of Aruba's Zerelda Lee, Scotland's Juliet-Jane Horne, and 90 other beautiful contestants around the world. #HistoryVille #MissWorld #AgbaniDarego
