The music of the Paraguayan composer Agustin Barrios 'Mangoré' (1885-1944) can be divided into three basic categories: folkloric, religious and imitative. Barrios paid tribute to the music and people of his native land by composing guitar pieces modeled after folk songs from South and Central America. Imitating the compositional style and techniques from the Baroque and Romantic periods was another side to his craftsmanship. Originally written for guitar in 1940, the “Prelude in C minor” is reminiscent of the music of J.S. Bach.
