Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is going to space in his company Blue origin’s rocket New Shepherd on 20th July 2021. He is flying with his brother Mark Bezos on the first human space flight of New Shepard after 15 un-crewed test flights since 2015.
The company auctioned the third ticket for $28 million in online bidding which started at $4.8 million. The name of the bidder will be revealed in a few weeks. There is a fourth and final passenger which the company hasn't disclosed yet.
The money will go to an educational nonprofit organization affiliated with Blue Origin named club for the future.
This spaceflight will last up to 11 minutes giving 3 minutes of breathtaking sightseeing and microgravity experience to the passengers.
Rocket is named after Alan Shepard, the second person and first US citizen to fly into space. The rocket will shoot a gumdrop-shaped six-berth capsule 62 miles above the ground. It will return to Earth using parachutes. The New Shepard booster can land vertically on the ground after returning from space.
Competitors of Blue Origin, Virgin Galactic, and SpaceX are also speeding up their operations to start commercial space flights as soon as possible.
