ASHEVILLE, N.C. -- Opening day for a taproom and restaurant at the Sierra Nevada Mills River brewery location is slated for next week.
Its opening is good news for Sierra Nevada and other local breweries hoping to cash in on the area's brewery tourism expansion.
The Sierra Nevada taproom and restaurant will be open on March 10. It's the latest in a series of expansion for Asheville area breweries all making up one of the fastest growing tourist attractions.
Clark Duncan with the Economic Development Coalition in Asheville says brewery tourism is part of the reason big names like New Belgium chose to build here.
"They were really immediately taken with our community and the fact that there's a really high visitation to our community," Duncan said. "And I think that's the same reason we've seen some additional eight or 10 breweries start even after New Belgium arrived."
Smaller breweries say they too have plans to draw more tourists in. Wicked Weed plans to begin tours specifically tailored to their facility in April.
The Sierra Nevada taproom will be big enough to seat 400 people and serve 23 different beers on tap.
