I discuss in this video some features of equity preferred stocks that I view as unfavorable. I consequently limit my exposure to them and will trade them frequently.
The website quantumonline.com is free to use but does require a registration. It has a lot of information about equity preferred stocks and exchange traded bonds. The site also provides links to prospectuses which need to be reviewed prior to a purchase.
In this video, I alluded to a high risk equity preferred stock that currently has a dividend yield at its current price at near an 8% spread to the ten year treasury yield. I am referring to HTIA, which changed its symbol today (1/2/25) to NHPAP as this private equity REIT went from externally managed to internally managed having paid a tidy sum to get rid of the poorly regarded external manager. The coupon is 7.375% paid on a $25 par value. I discuss some easily identifiable risks in Item #5.A. of my 12/26/24 blog post: "Added HTIA in Schwab Account at $14.5; 5 at $14.15". The yield at my total cost in that account is 12.59%. The stock goes ex dividend on 1/3/25. No cash common share dividend is being paid. All of the 2023 dividend payments were classified as ROC (return of capital)
