This is a design I have been working on for a while and finally it is looking pretty good. The kids have had an interest in knights and medieval weapons from a young age so this was one of the first things I set out to design when I first got my 3D printer. They also have plenty of nerf blasters and nerf darts so that ammo was a good fit once I solved the problems associated with firing such a lightweight projectile, one that would naturally want to flip or fly off the rail rather traveling in a straight line like with a typical crossbow.
We either shoot simple targets with it (indoors or out) or play a simple castle destruction game similar in concept to an old board game that was popular in the 80's known as "Crossbows and Catapults". While it is possible to fire standard size nerf darts with it, half-length darts like the "worker" or other ones available in volume boxes on Amazon work best. Uses the same new trigger system as the more powerful crossbows I have designed, I also tried to make a larger one with a longer draw length but this was hindered by the fact the plastic parts I printed (especially the part that goes directly above the rail) would always have a slight bend to them, resulting in poor accuracy as it became longer than a standard dart. It's not really any more accurate than a typical nerf blaster, though the velocity of the projectiles is slightly better at around 90 feet per second.

(for some reason the A/V sync has fallen out during final part of the video, no idea why, it is okay in this video: [ Ссылка ])
