the Lord who changed His form to please His devotee.
This Deity was worshipped by one of the 6 Goswamis, Shrila Gopal Bhatt Goswami. At a young age of 10 years he got associated with Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu, when Mahaprabhu stayed at his home in Srirangam during the tour of South India.
As instructed by Lord Chaitanya, after few years he travelled to Vrindavan. There he joined Srila Roop and Sanatan Goswami in their mission of rediscovering the lost places of Radha and Krishna’s pastimes and writing the devotional texts.
After receiving instructions through divine vision, Gopal Bhatta went to Nepal to the Gandaki river. One day when he was taking bath in Gandaki river, he dipped his kamandalu into the water and 12 round shilas mysteriously entered his water pot...
...He put them back into the water and dipped the kamandalu again, but the shilas again entered his water pot...
...When it happened for the third time, Gopal Bhatta realized, that those were Shaligram Silas, and there must be some divine arrangement behind it. He kept them in a cloth bag hung around his neck, and started to worship them.
Shri Gopal Bhatta Goswami returned to Vrindavan and worshipped the Shilas with great love and devotion. Once a rich businessman visited Goswami ji and made an offering of clothes, crowns, and jewellery for worship. But Goswami ji felt sad, as he was worshipping Shaligrams Shila which were round and he could not dress, or put crowns and jewellery for Them like the other Deities. Lamenting in this way, the Goswami took rest. Early the next morning when he came for regular seva of the Shaligram Shilas, he discovered that one of the Silas (Damodar Shaligram) was missing and had transformed into a beautiful black Deity of Krishna. Yes, the Lord had manifested Himself out of love, just to receive loving worship from Gopal Bhatta Goswami.
There was no end to joy of Srila Gopal Bhatt Goswami. Hearing about this wonderful miracle, Shri Rupa Goswami and Shri Sanatana Goswami, as well as the other Vaishnavas and Goswamis, quickly went there and saw the enchanting beauty of the deity. They name the Lord “Radha Raman”. Means "one who gives pleasure to Srimati Radharani".
The Deity of Sri Radharaman was manifested from one of the Shaligram-silas on the full moon day of Vaisakha in 1542. Sri Radharaman ji is one of the few original Deities of the Goswamis still in Vrindavan. The fires for cooking in the temple kitchen have been burning continuously for over last few hundred years, since the Deity was installed. No foreign elements, such as matches, are used for ignition purposes.
Anyone who visits Vrindavan should make sure to taking blessing of Sri Radha Raman ji.
Thank you. Hare Krishna.
