This video features my thoughts on painting expressive eyes using oils. This is something that's taken me some time to improve on. I think working from bigger shapes and blocks of color gradually to finer details later has helped. Also, it seems a subtle touch is beneficial, as well as utilizing more grays instead of out-of-the-tube white. The onscreen painting is a nice head-and-shoulders portrait example trying to follow these ideas.
