Today the baby llamas leave the nest and move onto snowy pastures as we take them away from their moms so they can enter into the next stage of their life.
Hiking and hunting with llamas is awesome. But there is a ton of work that goes into getting a llama ready for the backcountry. Animal husbandry is no joke and takes a ton of commitment, time, love and passion. Weaning the llamas is much more complicated than it seems. Keeping the babies in a proper fence during the weaning process is a must. The first few weeks the babies will try relentlessly to escape and find their moms again. You have to watch them closely and do your best to make sure they do not injure themselves and see that they settle in well to their new crib.
We have found a system that has worked for us over the years. There is always more than one way of doing things. We hope you enjoy watching todays episode of llama life.
