The widely-celebrated release of the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 saw a follow up to the Nvidia Turing lineup that not only boosted performance quite a bit but did so while lowering the price by $100 over its predecessor.
Considering that the RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti launched at much higher prices when they were released, the new pricing is welcome. The RTX 2080, for example, jumped from Nvidia GTX 1080’s $549 (£469, AU$925) to a price of $799 (£749, AU$1,199). And, the RTX 2080 Ti’s price hike was even bigger. Whereas the GTX 1080 Ti cost $699 (£649, about AU$950), the 2080 Ti’s price tag came in at $1,199 (£1,099, AU$1,899).

Thankfully, Nvidia didn’t follow expectations for another price increase with this new slate of RTX GPUs. Instead, they’ve taken notice of AMD’s more reasonable pricing and dropped the prices on the new Turing cards, even if that price drop isn't huge.
That price drop is coupled with boosts in performance and power efficiency. The Nvidia GeForce RTX 3080 not only gives a boost of 50-80% in performance over the RTX 2080, but 20-30% over the RTX 2080 Ti as well, a card that’s almost twice as expensive. And, to play the just-dropped Cyberpunk 2077 in 4K, you’ll need as much performance as you can get.
