In this episode of A Wild Glitch Appears, we learn how to catch a level 100 Nidoking in Pokemon Yellow for the Nintendo Game Boy.

Note that a similar trick can be performed in Pokemon Red and Blue Version but the process is different.

In Pokemon Yellow for the Nintendo Game Boy, there's a pretty easy way to catch a Level 100 Nidoking before even facing the first Gym Leader, Brock.

First, head to Pewter City and buy an Escape Rope. Don't fight the trainers in Viridian Forest on your way to Pewter, because you need to leave a specific trainer alone in order for this glitch to work.

Now head back to Viridian Forest and stand just out of the line of sight of the trainer who is the second-to-last before the exit to Pewter. He's standing on a bend in the forest. What you want to do is hug the left wall, then step one space to the left into his line of sight. As you do this, press Start to open your menu and use an escape rope. If you did it right, he will notice you, but you'll warp away (preferably to Pewter City).

Now head back to viridian forest and get into a random battle against a Level 4 Caterpie. You need a level 4 Caterpie here because this glitch won't work without a bug! Growl at this Caterpie until Growl doesn't work anymore, then defeat the Caterpie.

Head back to Pewter City and attempt to leave the city to the right. An NPC will stop you and bring you back to the Pewter City Gym because he wants you to fight Brock. But instead of doing that, head right back to Veridian Forest. When you arrive, a text box should appear asking about your PIKACHU. Close the text box and a fight will begin against a Level 1 Nidoking.

This Nidoking appears to have a massive amount of experience, despite being Level 1. In fact, this experience value represents a massively NEGATIVE number. But, as soon as this Nidoking earns a small amount of experience, that number will change (underflow?) to over 1 million experience, and he will become Level 100.

So, place Nidoking at the top of your Pokemon, then get into a battle against some scrub Pokemon like another Caterpie or something. Switch Nidoking out with your Pikachu or whatever and finish the battle. Nidoking will earn around 15 experience or so, and he will suddenly grow to Level 100. From what I understand, if you have Nidoking gain 59 or more experience (or is it 63?), the glitch will not work properly.

Anyway now you have a Level 100 Pokémon and you're only like 20 minutes into the game!
