In this video, we will use geometry, algebra, and the Pythagorean theorem to find the area of the region shaded in red. It's a really cool challenging geometry problem that has a very satisfying solution. We have a square, a quarter circle, and a pair of semicircles that are tangent, leaving a red shaded region.
We will also discuss a potential pedagogical approach, and benefits for students, of using such a problem as a teaching platform. By teaching through this type of problem students will be exposed to a lot of experiences that will help them develop meaningful skills like problem-solving, perseverance, creativity, and so on.
