#Agenda | Collaborating with Ombudsman
Business groups say the Anti-Red Tape Authority and the Office of the Ombudsman can co-exist and work together in implementing anti-corruption measures in government transactions.
Rogelio Singson of the Management of the Association of the Philippines says the business sector has been proposing this solution, after Ombudsman Samuel Martires pushed to abolish and repeal the law that created ARTA. Several busines groups though reject his call.
Martires insists it is an unconstitutional law that "usurps or encroaches upon the powers of the Ombudsman." The ARTA is mandated to "monitor and ensure compliance with the national policy on anti-red tape and ease of doing business in the country."
"We studied it and we started checking with the other business groups if they would want to co-sign a statement supporting that ARTA and Ombudsman collaborate and support each other," Singson says.
"The Ombudsman should focus on the violators and put them to jail, 'yung mga procedures let the ARTA do that," he adds.
