Within the NECAN region, ocean and coastal acidification has been a focus of several state commissions since 2014. In each of the final reports, enhanced monitoring for OCA parameters has been recommended. However, these reports lack specifics on what form this monitoring should take.
This year, NECAN will be hosting a series of webinars to help us determine the type, location, and timing of potential monitoring to better understand the status and trends of acidification in our waters.
These webinars will cover a wide range of topics, we will be hearing from key stakeholders on policy needs, new technology, biological impacts, and more. The NECAN Steering Committee will be listening and learning from these experts to assist in the development of a regional ocean acidification monitoring plan.
