The Australian Defence Force (ADF) joined the NSW community to mark Australia Day 2023. The Royal Australian Navy, Royal Australian Air Force and Australian Army combined for the Salute to Australia. During the Salute, HMAS Sydney was the centre-piece at Sydney Cove, Army fired a 21-gun salute from Hicksons Road Reserve and an F-35A Lightning II demonstrated its capability in an aerial display.
During the day, harbour foreshore spectators viewed two MH-60R Romeo Seahawk helicopters carrying an underslung Australian National Flag and Aboriginal Flag. In the evening, the Army’s Red Beret’s descended above the Sydney Opera House in a parachute display, followed by the RAAF Roulette Display, which coincided with the Australia Day Live Concert.
