Two protesters from a far-right group called Danish Patriots set fire to a copy of the Quran, Islam’s holy book, outside the Iraqi embassy in Copenhagen. The duo stomped on the Quran and set it alight in a tin foil tray next to the Iraqi flag lying on the ground.

The incident was livestreamed on Facebook by the group, which had held a similar demonstration last week. The Quran-burning sparked outrage and condemnation from Iraq and other Muslim-majority countries, such as Turkey, Algeria, Iran and Yemen

Thousands of protesters in Baghdad tried to reach the Danish embassy, but were stopped by security forces using tear gas. Last week, crowds set fire to Sweden’s embassy in Baghdad after the planned burning of a Quran in Stockholm

Sweden evacuated its embassy staff from Baghdad after the attack and Iraq expelled the Swedish ambassador. Denmark’s foreign ministry condemned the Quran-burning as provocative and shameful, but said it was not a crime in Denmark.
