A HUMBLE AND BLESSED PEOPLE The Word Exposed with Cardinal Tagle (January 29, 2023)

We are on the Fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time; in today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches us the way to achieve blessedness or happiness by directing us to look at certain people.

The poor in spirit, the meek, the merciful, the clean of heart, the peacemakers—all blessed in the kingdom of heaven. Those who mourn; who hunger and thirst for righteousness; who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness; and who are insulted, persecuted, and falsely accused because of Jesus—all will be rewarded in heaven.

Friends, at the core of the Beatitudes is a teaching on how we must live as followers of Christ: be humble and you will be blessed. God’s comfort and reward come to the lowly who depend on Him.
