If you find a GPS tracker on your car, and it happens to be owned by the police, can you remove it?
Police tried to convict a man in Indiana for removing a GPS tracker they put on his car. They claimed he stole the tracker, so they got a warrant to search his house. They found illegal substances there, plus the tracker, so they arrested him.
This man took the case all the way to the Indiana Supreme Court, arguing the warrant was unfair, because he didn't know who the tracker belonged to. The Indiana Supreme Court sided with him, and decided that police can no long get warrants if people bring unmarked trackers in their house.
My advice? Don't bring the tracker in your home. Dispose of it elsewhere so police cannot claim you stole it. Not all states have the same ruling as Indiana, so it's best not to keep the tracker in your possession.
