In our today's amazing video, we've talked about how to frame a rough opening for a garage door; here're a brief steps that we have explained in the video:
Measure and Mark: Measure the width and height of your garage door. Typically, a single-car door is 8-9 feet wide and 7-8 feet high, while a double-car door is 16-18 feet wide and 7-8 feet high. Mark the center of the opening.
Frame Material: Use pressure-treated lumber for framing. Cut two vertical studs (jack studs) to the height of the door plus 1.5 inches and two horizontal studs (header) to the width of the door plus 6 inches.
Build the Header: Attach the horizontal header to the jack studs using framing nails or screws. Ensure it's level.
Install King Studs: Place king studs on both sides of the header. These should extend from the bottom plate to the top plate of the wall.
Add Trimmers: Install trimmer studs between the king studs and the header.
Secure the Frame: Secure the frame to the garage opening using appropriate hardware. Make sure it's level and plumb.
Check Clearances: Ensure there's enough clearance for the garage door hardware and opener.
Consult Manufacturer: Refer to your garage door manufacturer's specifications for any additional framing requirements.
Always follow local building codes and consult with a professional if you're unsure about any step. Safety is paramount when working with garage door openings.
