In Calgary, Tyler Shandro, the Alberta minister of health, provides an update on the province's response to the ongoing COVID-19 (coronavirus disease) pandemic. He is joined from Edmonton by Dr. Deena Hinshaw, Alberta’s chief medical officer of health. In his remarks, the minister warns that the highly transmissible U.K. variant of COVID-19 may be spreading in the community in Alberta. The warning comes after the detection of Alberta’s first case of the variant that could not be traced to travel outside the province.
