In todays video we carry on with our holiday to Romanian mountains. This is beautiful wintery Transfagarasan and at the top of it you will find Balea Lac (Lake).
Located at 2034 meters above sea level its part of Fagaras Mountains which are the highest in Romania.
Transfagarasan is famous for it's TV appearance in Top Gear show and its wild life. Transfagarasan road covers both sides of Fagaras Mountains. While some prefer to visit Balea Lac section it's good to visit both sides. - Bear in mind this is only possible during summer time when the road is open.
The route is also knows for bear appearances. This is especially good on the Balea Lac - Vidraru Dam section.
In winter the only way up is via cable car on the Cartisoara side of the mountains. And this is what we did. We hear there was an avalanche few weeks ago but when we got there I didn't expect to see THAT much snow. Lake is completely frozen and covered in snow and you can walk right through it to get between two cabins.
The cabins located at Balea Lake are all year round and are great place to stay or eat/drink before you go down again.
