"Love Street" was released in the spring of 1990 on World Party's second album, Goodbye Jumbo. Originally released in 1990 on Ensign/Chrysalis, the album was essentially a solo project by Karl Wallinger, aided by a number of guest artists, including Sinéad O'Connor and former members of The Waterboys.
The album was voted Album of the Year by Q magazine in 1990. In 2000, Q placed it at number 94 in its list of the 100 Greatest British Albums Ever. It received a nomination for a Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album. It was reissued and remastered in 2006 on Seaview Records.
The single "Way Down Now" spent five weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Modern Rock chart. The follow-up "Put the Message in the Box" reached number 8.
The album's classic rock sound – guitar, bass and drums – was augmented by piano, strings, flute and electronic percussion. The songs followed the loose concept of an everyman's journey from lonely despair to spiritual fulfillment.
Once again as I was digging back into some of my oldest projects I came across so many of my favorite songs that I'd started but never finished.....man, there is just an incredible amount of seriously great things that are crying to be heard by some new fans!....anyway, among the things I found that I'd been seriously remiss in not getting around to a single track from one of my top 50 albums.....this album is an absolute perfect slice of pure pop genius, the Beatles influence is so strong and the result is an undeniable masterpiece from start to finish. Nearly every song from the album was a contender for my first video by this band..."Love Street" is knockout gorgeous and just too lovely to wait. I hope you enjoy this trip down "Love Street"! Thanks for watching!
As usual HUGE THANKS to everyone who's art made this new art possible...THANK YOU!!!!
[Lyrics]
Have you ever been to Love Street?
Have you ever tried on all the shoes?
They're for walking on the clouds with
And not for down here in the blues
Y'know dreams come true on Love Street too
Smile, you're in this place
I was walking with the lonely
Before you came into my heart
Showed me round your Love Street
Took me naked from the dark
Well you're touching my soul
Don't let me go
You're calling out to me
I'm turning to gold
Beginning to flow
Somebody set me free
Until now my mind was blank
And there was nothing there and the
The white lady
(The white lady, the white lady)
She won't come my way
(Won't come my way)
You say,"Close your eyes"
(Close your eyes, close your eyes, close your eyes)
And walk down that street in your mind
Oh it's some place so fine
(Some place so fine)
Y'know really drives me out of my mind
How could it be?
That I'm walking down Love Street, baby
Walking down Love Street
