It's been almost 10 years since I wrote my book "The BJJ Globetrotter". Its reach has had an enormous influence on my life and I've been wondering ever since, if it would be possible to do another project like that—another equally "defining piece of art".
The idea of some sort of film or documentary was on my drawing board for years and years, but it wasn't until I ran into Stevie Antoniou some years back that things clicked. He had made a few "holiday highlight videos" as hobby projects and I could immediately see that this guy had some serious artistic talent and there probably would be a very short window of opportunity to work with him before someone else "discovered" him.
I suggested he could travel along for all the camps for one year and film everything, thinking that we could perhaps put it together for some sort of documentary. I didn't have high hopes—or perhaps even believe it was realistic—but worst case, we would have some nice footage from camps to use for advertisement.
Fast forward almost three years of intense work and here we are, releasing a film I believe will be at least as impactful as the book. Stevie has honestly surpassed my wildest expectations and created something truly beautiful. A real piece of art and one of those few special things that will last a lifetime. I picked a pretty much random young guy with a camera to work with and it turned out to be the best I could possibly have chosen. If you ever need photo or video for anything, you call up Stevie.
Enough said. Here is the film. I hope you will take your time to enjoy it properly, just like we have taken our time to make it just right.
