Well, here’s the truth. When a shinobi makes a shadow clone, they split their chakra evenly, so if you make 3 clones then you chakra is split 25 percent between yourself and the three clones. The more clones that you make using the jutsu, the more chakra is required to perform it, even moreso than a clone jutsu which is a mere illusion whereas shadow clones are physical clones. Shadow clones can also transfer both knowledge but most importantly any fatigue back to the original hosts body, so the more exhausting the challenge for your clone, the more fatigued you become afterwards. Most shinobi don’t have the massive chakra reserves of someone like Hashirama, which is why he made the jutsu forbidden and placed the jutsu in the scroll of seals but he never anticipated a certain knuckleheaded shinobi spamming it by making 1,000 clones routinely.
