The flight wasn’t supposed to take very long - just a little over six hours. The plane used for this significant flight was a Boeing 777-200ER. This particular aircraft was not new; it had been in use for 12 years and was registered as 9M-MRO.
The pilot in charge was Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah. He was an experienced and highly skilled pilot, 53 years old. Captain Zaharie had a notable career, having flown for 18,365 hours. He was familiar with this route and loved flying a lot. He often talked about his flying experiences and his passion for aviation on different online platforms. Joining him in the cockpit was First Officer Fareq Abdul Hamid. At 27 years old, he was much younger and had 2,763 hours of flying experience.
