STORYLINE:
A cyclone has flooded coastal villages, blown away thatched roofs and left hundreds of thousands of people without power in southern Bangladesh.
Nearly 800-thousand residents had evacuated ahead of Cyclone Remal.
TV stations reported the storm surge damaged and washed away flood protection embankments, causing flooding in dozens of villages.
Local media reported seven deaths.
In India's West Bengal state, high winds uprooted power poles and trees.
Winds that were 69 mph (111 kph) at landfall had weakened to 56 mph (90 kph) around midday.
Airports and schools in the area were closed Monday and seaports suspended operations.
