Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a $40-million contribution for a quantum computing and software startup company Xanadu in Toronto, Ont. Trudeau was accompanied by the Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry François-Philippe Champagne.
According to reports, Xanadu Quantum Technologies Inc. is one of many companies around the world that is trying to build computers by harnessing the ephemeral properties of subatomic particles to perform calculations that would take current supercomputers millennia to run.
Later in the day, Trudeau's cabinet will kick off a three-day retreat on Monday to discuss their priorities ahead of Parliament’s return. The cabinet retreat will be in Hamilton, Ont., and will focus on the cost of living and the economy, according to a news release.
