The River Warriors of Sungai Watch
Look at that—it’s so satisfying to see rivers like these coming back to life."Every year, millions of tons of plastic end up in our oceans. But one group is stepping up to change that—one river at a time.
Founded in 2020 by Gary, Kelly, and Sam Bencheghib in Bali, Indonesia, Sungai Watch is on a mission to protect and restore our rivers by creating simple tech to stop plastic from flowing into the ocean.
With over 120 dedicated 'river warriors,' Sungai Watch now cleans up 200 rivers, setting up barriers that catch waste before it gets to the sea.And they don’t stop there. Everything collected is sorted, recycled, and upcycled, giving plastic a new purpose.
Their goal? To install 1,000 barriers across Indonesia's most polluted rivers—and take this solution global.Big shoutout to Sungai Watch and their partners for making this possible. Together, we’re stopping plastic pollution where it starts. Follow @sungaiwatch to join the mission!
