This is a version of Windows XP designed for ATMs, cash registers, and store checkout machines. This OS is slimmed down because it was designed for only those purposes. I don't recommend using this OS because it appears to be incompatible with some drivers. Some programs may also not support it. Windows Embedded POS Ready 2009 Mainstream supported ended on April 8, 2014. Extended support will end on April 9, 2019.
While this OS was designed for ATMs, cash registers, and store checkout machines, many of those machines running XP do not use it. I see most machines running a normal version of XP. Why are these machines still using XP? These machines were intended to be used until it is absolutely necessary to be replaced. Some of these machines remain in use for up to 15-20 years. Yes, some ATMs still use Windows 9x but that's not very common. It is estimated that 95% of ATMs worldwide still use Windows XP.
