Walmart Becomes Largest Firm to Pull Back DEI Policies amid Right-Wing Pressure | Firstpost America
American retail corporation Walmart has become the latest and biggest company to roll back its Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies amid pressure from conservative activists. Walmart will now drop its quotas for giving contracts to suppliers largely owned by women, veterans, minorities, and LGBTQ+ community members. It will also abandon a five-year, $100 million racial equity centre, which was set up after the police killing of George Floyd in 2020. The retail chain will also leave a prominent LGBTQ+ rights campaign that tracks the treatment of community members and reviews funding and participation for Pride events. Moreover, Walmart will remove some LGBTQ+ products from its shelves as well. This comes as anti-DEI activists increased attacks on corporations after the Supreme Court ruling last year, which ended the consideration of race in college admissions.
