World Statistics Day takes place every fifth year on 20 October, according to a United Nations General Assembly resolution. The Day is marked by national, regional and international entities to draw attention to statistics. This year’s theme Connecting the World with data we can Trust is extremely relevant in today’s world where current, reliable, timely and trusted data are at the heart of understanding our changing world. The main focus of the day centers around the essential aspects of building and maintaining trust in data and statistics, especially in today’s world, and the need for strengthening data ecosystems in countries to bring together quality data from various sources to provide more timely data.
World Statistics Day is a decentralized campaign organized by the UN Statistics Division, and it is a time for each country or organization to celebrate their own institution and statistics. As we approach World Statistics Day, UNSD maintains a website with updates on planned activities, such as webinars, competitions, among others. A number of universities and academic institutes have also shared information on their planned events. You will find promotional materials, such as gate banners, buttons, and stationary, on the website!
We invite you to share your organization’s planned activities! Please visit the World Statistics Day website to find out the latest news and translations of the logo!
