Narcissists want you to react. They need to control your emotions. Why is this? Projective identification is not well known, but is commonly used by pathologically narcissistic individuals. Projective identification is one reason that narcissists are sometimes compelled to start pointless arguments or cause upset for no clear reason. It can be a frightening and even dangerous component of narcissistic abuse that is important to understand. In this video, I explain this complicated psychological phenomenon simply with easy to understand examples.
