Al-Mawardi (c.974–1058) can be considered pretty much the Islamic world’s counterpart to the Italian Florentine writer Niccolò Machiavelli (1469-1527), as an important figure & writer with regards to theory about politics & the ideals of government. This video aims to talk briefly about ʻAlī ibn Muḥammad ibn Ḥabīb al-Māwardī & his importance for developing theory regarding Islamic rulership & politics & touches upon his importance for the development of modern political Islam & Islamism.
