Joe Girardi Freudian slip during full MLB Network segment on state of the art sign stealing- Originally aired October 15, 2019

Recently Joe Girardi was caught with a Freudian slip in a clip from a previously aired segment from last season (October).

When asked: "so what did you guys use" (with sinister laugh)

Joe Girardi answers: “I was part of a system where it came from upstairs, to someone in the dugout, to the hit..... to the guy at second base.”

Joe came out and defended his statement claiming he was describing how he was part of a system to catch the other team.

Girardi was asked about his saying, “I was part of a system” in the video.
“Yeah, the system was our system caught the other group,” he said.

So he claimed the "system" from that quote was their system catching the other team.

However, there are a few problems with his claim as evidence by the full segment in this video. First of all, he was explicitly discussing how a runner would steal and relay signs to the hitter from 2nd (3:39). Then he was asked "what did you guys use" while talking about relaying signs to the guy on 2nd. So that's the context, not what Girardi tried to pass it off as. More importantly, when a team suspects the other team's has their signs they have a mound meeting between the pitcher and catcher. They do not send signs from upstairs to the hit...I mean guy on 2nd. In fact, in the very beginning Girardi speaks about how in todays MLB every game is recorded and you have to thus protect your signs to combat this (0:21). He explicitly mentions the Yankees having a system where they have multiple signs in a hat and the catchers signals to pitcher to change pitches every few pitches (0:44-0:59). And right after he says the Freudian slip, they go into to how the pitcher/players has to stay on top of it and act accordingly when they suspect it(4:12-6:13). There is no mention of the upstairs intervening to "catch the other team" it's clearly caught by the players and they act accordingly by switching the signs, which proves that Girardi's recent excuse is an outright LIE to cover his ass.
