Alnwick, a charming market town in Northumberland, is a destination that feels like stepping into a storybook. Dominated by the majestic Alnwick Castle, this historic town offers a blend of medieval allure and modern attractions. The castle, famously featured as Hogwarts in the Harry Potter films, invites visitors to explore its grand halls, take broomstick lessons, and wander through its beautifully landscaped grounds.
Adjacent to the castle is the enchanting Alnwick Garden, home to the mesmerizing Grand Cascade, a Poison Garden filled with deadly plants, and the world’s largest Taihaku cherry orchard. The garden’s Treehouse Restaurant, nestled among the treetops, offers a unique dining experience with twinkling fairy lights and a cozy open fire.
Stroll through Alnwick’s cobbled streets to discover quaint shops, traditional pubs, and the historic Barter Books, one of the largest second-hand bookstores in the UK, housed in a former railway station. The Bailiffgate Museum provides a fascinating glimpse into the local history and culture.
