In early June, the new interpretive art mural in Kanaka Creek Regional Park was celebrated. The mural is located at the fish fence site, where broodstock is collected for the nearby Bell-Irving Hatchery, which supports salmon conservation and education programs.
The theme of the mural is, “We are interconnected and entangled within the salmon food web. By caring for it, in all its life cycle stages, we take care of ourselves and all the plants and animals connected to salmon, from the past to the present.”
Artists and students from the community created the mural. It will teach students and visitors from across the region about the salmon life cycle, their connection to our ecosystem and people, and the importance of habitat preservation and conservation.
