Monisha Rohimullah is a tailor.
As someone from the transgender communiity, she faced discrimination all her life. But she wanted to change that narrative. In order to earn a decent livelihood, Monisha undertook skills development training from BRAC. She specialised in tailoring. Upon completion of her course, she secured a job at a local tailor shop in her community.
At present, Monisha teaches tailoring work to others besides working at the shop. She aspires to open her own tailoring business in the future, and provide employment to those who faced similar accounts of discrimination in the society, just like she did.
In 2020, the unemployment rate in Bangladesh rose by 5.3% due to the #COVID19 #pandemic. BRAC has reached over 345,000 youths with various skills development opportunities, and over 75% of them have secured jobs even during the pandemic.
BRAC Skills Development Programme has been working to create employable skills and decent work opportunities for people from all backgrounds. We provide technical and vocational training through apprenticeship and institution-based interventions.
