It is near the end of Autumn and my mates Buffalo is sure in a bad state.
What caused this lawn to go like this?
Over Watering. Watered every night unfortunately which is prime for developing fungal issues in a lawn. As you can see the lawn has taken a real hit.
Being the end of Autumn we are at difficult time because Sir Walter Buffalo is a warm season grass and it will stop growing soon. What we can do is remove the issues such as the dead material and aerating the soil and applying a bit of soil wetter.
Stacey, the lawns owner, is now only going to water weekly and after a couple of weeks watering the lawn weekly instead of everyday before I started caring for it the lawn is actually looking better than I saw it a fortnight ago. We are headed in the right direction.
Today being day 1, we gave it a mow, removed some dead material from the previously fungus effected areas and put some soil wetter down. During the week, Stacey will organise some top dress which we will put in next weekend and put down some Four Seasons slow release granular fertiliser.
It is going to be a battle during winter which is not far away. The growth of the grass will slow and stop and the bare areas will be prime for winter weed germination. We will be prepared with some post emergent herbicide that won't affect the buffalo installed.
I am following my repair program which is on page 10 of the Foliar Application Guide. All our guides are available for free download. Visit

Although this guide is designed for growing season repair, we can adapt it to where we are sitting and just make the best lawn possible to survive the winter ills and hit spring running with a repair.
