Community outreach teams in conjunction with the city of Toronto are getting ready to the take to the streets to go door to door to find those who have yet to take the COVID-19 vaccine shot.
For those with accessibility issues or simply don’t have the time, mobile vaccine clinics are being organized and will target areas with seniors buildings, shelters, and encampments.
“It brings the sort of less clinical angle to the pandemic and right to neighbourhoods, and right to your door essentially,” says Herman Ellis, Executive Director of Scadding Court Community Centre. “We’re simply saying - hi I’m representing Scadding Court I’d like to talk to you about vaccines. Did you get it, or did you not get it or is there something you’d like to know.”
Roughly 77 per cent of Torontonians have had their first vaccine dose, city and health officials always knew reaching the last percentage of individuals would always be tough for a variety of reasons.
