Should psychologists be political? Being a trainee clinical psychologist can be a tough space, because most of the time you’re kinda scared of doing something wrong. Mix this with the general social awkwardness that comes with speaking about politics, and the pressure to be “neutral” as a psychologist”… you can see why people would just want to stay out of it!

I’ve been thinking a lot about politics and being more vocal, particularly since my placement in an intensive care unit, where government decisions played out in front of me. I feel strongly that we as psychologists are well equipped to speak out on many issues that are at the forefront of political discourse at the moment, and I hope this video will explain a little bit about my reasons for this.
