Norway: A Hidden Gem for Mountain Bikers
Norway remains an underrated destination for mountain biking, especially above the Arctic Circle, where the experience is nothing short of breathtaking. Starting at sea level and climbing to elevations between 700 and 1,000 meters, the descent takes you through diverse terrains and Norway’s rugged natural beauty. From rocky alpine landscapes at the mountain peaks to root-filled trails in the forest, you finish your ride by the water’s edge.
Most trails in Norway are originally hiking paths, meaning you often need to push or carry your bike up the mountain before enjoying the thrilling descent.
In 2023, I spent two months exploring Norway’s trails, capturing countless unforgettable moments on my bike. This video series shares those experiences while preserving memories for myself and others.
Episode 1: Exploring Tromsø’s Trails
This first video showcases a trail near the stunning city of Tromsø. In summer, Tromsø offers endless opportunities for mountain biking around the city. The trail begins in Tromsdalen, winding through the valley and climbing to the mountain's summit, where you'll enjoy panoramic views of Tromsø and the surrounding peaks. As you descend, the cityscape stays in view the entire way down.
The trail itself can be divided into three distinct sections:
The Alpine Zone: The top section is rocky and technical, with some areas where the path is barely visible. While some parts are steeper, the overall flow makes it manageable and enjoyable.
The Sandy Descent: After passing a viewpoint, the trail transitions into a sandy downhill section that leads into the forest. This part features some technical challenges and steeper sections.
The Forest Trail: The final stretch is a flat forest trail that heads back toward the city. While it’s possible to gain speed, occasional roots may slow you down. With more practice, this section can be ridden faster.
