Tim Pierce says that there's only 3 modes that matter: Dorian, Mixolydian and Ionian/Aeolian (He says that Ionian & Aeolian are just the same scale really!) Was he right? Well, these are certainly the 3 modes that we use the most often in blues and rock music. The other modes hardly ever get used.
In his videos on the topic, he demonstrates how to switch between these modes and emphasise the differences in the sounds and what makes each mode unique. I was inspired to try this for myself, and having worked through the ideas, I figured I'd share the backing track and my learning.
