Washington, D.C.: On Thursday (January 9), the U.S. Supreme Court delivered a pivotal ruling, allowing former President Donald Trump to face sentencing for his conviction on criminal charges related to hush money payments to a porn star. The decision came in a narrow 5-4 vote, with two conservative justices joining the three liberal members. Trump, who is set to be sentenced on Friday (January 10) in a Manhattan state court, expressed respect for the court’s ruling in comments to the press. As Trump’s legal battles continue to unfold, the ruling also coincides with viral footage from a recent memorial service for former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, where Trump was seen speaking amicably with former President Barack Obama. When asked about the interaction, Trump remarked, “It did look very friendly, I must say. I said, ‘Boy, they look like two people that like each other.’ And we probably do. We have little different philosophies, right? But we probably do.” The sentencing is scheduled just 10 days before Trump’s inauguration for a second term as president, underscoring the continued legal and political challenges that lie ahead.
