The Class 323 is a Holec and Hunslet product designed to replace old British Rail EMUs in Birmingham. One of its features is (*drum role*) an electronic motor driver using a VSI with GTOs. Holec wrote some of their famous pseudo-synchronous PWM into the control unit, popular amongst a lot of their other projects such as in the Netherlands. Later, Alstom came along and modified the phase modules to bin the GTOs in favour of IGBTs. What they didn't do was bin the Holec VVVF.
Pulse modes are: SDM165, SDM105, SDM69, SDM45, 33P by sine, 35P by sine, 31P by sine, 19P by square, 15P by square, 11P by square, 7P by square, 5P by square, 3P by square. During braking, 3P is excluded - the minimum count is 5P.
Noise reduction post-processing:
- Manual
- White noise reduction
Equipment used:
- 2x 1000mH telephone pickup coil
- Sony ICD PX470
