A lawyer, George Eke, has stressed the need for proper consideration of the Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN) alarm of unremitted $49.8 billion by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation.
He pointed out that CBN had been handling issues of remittance before now and should have enough economists and accountants that could distinguish simplistic strain of accounting of equity royalty and taxes.
"If it (CBN) is still insisting that the part that is supposed to be remitted by NNPC is still outstanding, then they should be listened to.
"CBN should speak up but they are maintaining some dignified silence because they are not supposed to join issues with NNPC. If they do it becomes political.
"There are some hazy areas that need to be addressed. If after reconciliation, CBN is still insisting that that there is a gap then there is more to it that meets that eye.
