Why we Wanted to Quit Cycling | Cycling the World

After spending 3 long days in the Azerbaijani port of Alat we get the green light to board the Caspian Sea ferry to Kazakhstan. We explore the ship and make friends along the way. In the middle of the second night we are woken up to get ready for the cumbersome passport control. Hours later we get of the ship and are lucky to find a sleeping place in the customers centre in the Kazakh port at Kuryk. A huge and monotonous expanse of desert awaits us to the east. Constant headwind, scorching sun, crazy traffic and with clouds of dust we decide it’s better to skip this part and use our time in more exciting places further down the line. We have fun on the train with the local people of West Uzbekistan and take the taxi from Nukus for a crazy ride to the heart of central Asia.
